Should You Use YouTube to Make Money?

Do You YouTube?

Honestly, I’m not going to knock whether or not you do YouTube. I do YouTube. I think most people who work online do YouTube now. Maybe. All I know is that a lot of people do and they’re making money from it.

Why Should You YouTube?

I think too many people have been using YouTube the wrong way and they’re paying for it right now. Hell, I’m guilty of this. I thought that AdSense was going to be the biggest and best thing out there after hearing how much some people made. Then, as usual, I’m late to the game and realize that once I started getting a pretty good number of subscribers that YouTube had changed the rules.

I wasn’t making much at all. I was at about $12.00 per every 28 days with adsense. I had 700 subscribers at the time. I was creating a video daily with about 40 views per video. Yeah, I know, pretty crappy! But it was growing. I was excited. I knew I was going to be the next horror story teller on YouTube! And then the Adpocolypse hit. My massive $12.00 per month dwindled down to $2.00 per month. LOL! I went from sad to pathetic!

What was I doing wrong? I was relying on YouTube to pay me. What I should have done was grab a really cool affiliate program and run with it. I could have sold t-shirts or whatever. I did try to sell horror books and movies, but that didn’t seem to work out too well probably because the lack of my YouTube views.

BUT! I knew it could work. I know it can. Do I still use YouTube? Yes, I do. I think you should, too. Don’t rely on it to fund your bank account. Use Adsense as a second, third, or even fourth method of pay. Use it for chump change. That’s all it is really worth. Use YouTube to build up your affiliate programs, blogs, or services. That is where the value is going to be.

Did I continue to tell scary stories? Yes, I still do. I don’t regularly use YouTube to do it because of the whole censorship thing they’ve done. I’ve moved to podcasting for my scary stories. I do use YouTube to pimp out affiliate programs to people though. I do put adsense on my videos just in case, but most of all I just pimp the heck out of my websites.

So YouTube if you want to because it sure is fun, but unless people are buying products from you or you have 50,000,000 subscribers and no censorship then you aren’t going to make a ton of money and if you do then be warned then it can be taken from you at any moment’s notice.
