Hmmm…I’m not sure about this. I’ve never understood how people can watch movies on the iPhone or iPod given the tiny little size of the screen. Tablets are a little better, but I like my movies in full bloom in front of my face. Now not only can you run NetFlix on these devices, but it can be viewed from the Nintendo 3DS.
How many adults actually have a 3DS? Seriously, I have never wanted one. My oldest son probably wants one just to have one, but I can imagine most of the people who want to play with this device are 9 through 12 year old kids. There are reasons why I don’t allow my younger kids have Netflix on the XBOX and it doesn’t have anything to do with the price of Netflix. When you walk in on your son watching Zombie Strippers then you know Netflix has got to be squelched.
Now they can take their little devices and stream it outside of your house? Oh sure, look at some of the ratings and titles of these movies! I’m not big on censorship, but I do believe that parents need to keep track of what their kids are watching without government interference. The Netflix rating system never worked right with the kids in the house and they always figured out how to get around it so I just blocked it from their IP addresses on their devices. With this they can go anywhere.
I guess it’s up to you. Do you want your kids with a full load of Netflix movies? I don’t. But, for us adults, the 3D streaming capabilities of Netflix on the 3DS might actually be pretty cool. There hasn’t been a lineup created yet, but if this works out the 3DS might actually have a great line-up of movies for anyone with a 3DS.
Be aware that you’ll need that latest updated from at least June 6, 2011 to download the Netflix App from the Nintendo eShop and watch regular movies. Netflix is still $7.99 per month I believe, which is the original price I paid years and years ago.
Unless you want to donate a 3DS to me, I won’t be able to watch any 3D movies on it, but I would LOVE to know what they look like. Keep me posted, please.
