Did You Make Your New Year Resolutions About Business?

January 3, 2014 · Posted in Business · Comments Off

So many of us make new year resolutions about our lives that we forget about our small businesses. The beginning of the year is a good time to reflect what you did right or wrong in your business and try to do better the next year. The SBC for Canada About page talks about how important it is to drop old habit and begin new ones that work in their New Year’s Resolutions for Small Business Success article.

If you continue to do what isn’t working then you will continue to fail. There isn’t a magic fairy who flies around tagging small businesses and giving them luck. Successful businesses adapt or redo their business and marketing plans to do what works for them. If you do not learn from history then history will repeat itself and you will not make more money.

Reviewing your business plan will stop all of this from happening. When you refresh your memory of what your original goal was in the first place and rework your steps to meet that goal knowing what worked and what didn’t the year before, then you can continue on your path to success in 2014.

Geekmom’s Internet Money Secrets

February 3, 2013 · Posted in Affiliate Marketing, Blogging, Business, Work from Home · Comments Off

There are many ways to make money on the Internet. I have been working from home using the Internet since 2001. I didn’t have a choice. I was laid off from a $90K per year job in the high tech industry. I moved to Wisconsin so I could take the nice layoff package offered to me and buy a house then work for a certain business in a job promised to me.

Unfortunately, that job never happened so there I was stuck at home in an area with very few jobs let alone good paying high tech jobs with 3 small kids and a spouse who was also not working. I had nowhere to turn except to the Internet to make cash. All the funds of my layoff package ran out and I had almost nothing. I took a part time job as a computer tech and started working on my online business and created geekmom.net.

Several online businesses later I found the methods in this book allowed me to work from home and take care of my family. A dear friend of mine included a lot of new ideas to me and I wouldn’t be writing this at this very moment without a few of her networking ideas as well. I have several different blogs on the Internet which generate money for me and keep me from fighting the rat race on a daily basis. I’m not quite where I want to be yet, but I’m getting there.

You too can use the methods I have used to grow your business. Coming soon to this page will be a blogging book where I will tell you how I was able to use blogging to surge my business to a point where I make full time money from home.

Sign up for my mailing list and you will be notified when Geekmom’s Internet Money Secrets book is available to you.

Best Business Opportunity Ever

June 4, 2012 · Posted in Business, Business Opportunities, LottoMagic · Comments Off

I think I’ve just hit the gold mine with this business opportunity. I just started promoting LottoMagic which is a business opportunity that is also a lotto club. I really hate to call it a business opportunity since it takes so little of my time to do, but it does work.

If you like playing the lotto, then this business is for you. With it I can buy lottery tickets in both the Florida lottery and PowerBall without having to be there. Not only do I buy one number, but then I share all the lottery numbers of all the people who are working with me. Does that make sense? I know it sounds a little confusing, but it’s not. Every person who buys a ticket for that drawing includes you as one of the ticket holders. So if you win the big one then you share it with the people under you. Here’s the catch, you get paid monthly for all the people who do end up buying tickets. So for a small $120 investment I get my lotto tickets bought and paid for by someone else and for every person who I show the business to who makes the same small investment then I make a profit and they can do the same. There are no soaps to sell, no cosmetics or vitamins. No knocking on doors. Nothing. And if I didn’t care to make money every month? Then all I had to do was find two people interested in making money and my lotto buys are paid for.

But who are you kidding? I want to make money! My friend is making $2600 per month right now doing this. I’m just getting started, but when I saw his payment I said yeah, I could use another $2600 per month. Heck, I could use another $100 per month and some lotto luck.

I’ll keep you updated as my business grows, but for now just know that it’s fun, a little exciting, and it does work. Check out LottoMagic. I know you won’t be disappointed.

Easy Advertising for Your Blog with MaxBannerAds

May 16, 2012 · Posted in Business · Comments Off

Are you tired of keeping track of advertising on your blog and hard coding all those banner ads? I was too and I went on a search for something better. I found the answer at Max Blog Press with their Max Banner Ads product.

Installation was very easy. All I had to do was download the package and use the WordPress installer. Setup was pretty self explanatory. Unlike most plugins where you find the settings in the Settings tab, Max Banner Ads is found in the Tools menu. I setup my first 125×125 button with no problem at all. One of my favorite features with Max Banner Ads is being able to put code from affiliate such as LinkShare and have the plugin convert it to their format that was nice.

Ads can easily be placed in widget areas or at the top or bottom and within pages. Unfortunately, my template doesn’t have a widget area where I want to put the ads so I have to either configure the code to do so or add the Tag for hard code. I didn’t have time to change the theme code so I just hard coded it into the sidebar.php file using the “Tag” feature. As of right now, this isn’t working properly because it isn’t rotating. Other than that issue, the code is working fine.

I can now see how many impressions are shown of each advertisement and how many clicks each one gets which means I can sell banner space to people and stop it depending on the amount of clicks/impressions and tell my customer how many times the user clicked or how many times the banner was shown. What would be really nice to have that I didn’t see available, is a way to stop impressions and clicks based on a number given or a date.

If I can figure out how to fix my banner ad rotation problem, I’m going to keep using the Max Banner Ads plugin as it is an easy way for me to keep track. I do hope they add these features at a later date. It will make my life a whole lot easier.

How to Get Your Twitter to Update Facebook

May 11, 2012 · Posted in Business, Social Networking · Comments Off

Now isn’t this just the coolest thing in the world. As many of you already know I love automation, it won’t be a surprise to you that I’ve found a new way to update facebook from twitter without any kind of 3rd party tinkering. Granted, it might get annoying for your friends on facebook if you tweet a lot, but hey it’s social networking.

All you need to do is log into facebook and then into twitter and click on your personal menu in the upper right corner. Next, click on settings and scroll down to profile. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check the Update Facebook box. It will ask you to give the application permission. Once you give the app permission, it will work for for you.

Sometimes it doesn’t update and I don’t know why, but it does work most of the time. There are better ways to do this through services such as ping.fm, but if you want a simple way to get your facebook page updated with just a tweet then try it and see if it works for you.

Find a Telecommute Job Online

April 5, 2012 · Posted in Business, Jobs · Comments Off

If you’ve been wondering how all these find telecommute jobs then you’re not alone. Telecommuting used to be only available to those who can talk their bosses into letting them work from home. Since most companies do enjoy a lot of control, it was difficult to convince them it is the right thing to do.

Now that almost every household has a computer and a connection to the Internet, telecommuting has become more popular. In fact, there are companies where all employees work from home. The problem is, you just need to be able to find these companies.

Sites like wahm.com are available to those who want to work from home in either a home business or through a telecommute job. wahm actually means “work at home mom”. This phrase used to mean a woman who has a side job at home while taking care of the kids, but since the popularity of the Internet has exploded over the years the wahm can be a full time employee of a Fortune 500 company or a woman who owns her own online business.

Another way to find a telecommute job is to look at places such as Telecommute Resource. These type of sites are job boards for telecommute workers. Some of the jobs are only available to subcontractors and others are available as actual positions at a company. Either way, a person wanting to telecommute can find all types of jobs at these companies.

Make sure when you’re looking for a telecommute job that you have your resume ready. Be sure to list the equipment you have available in your home. Many require that you own a computer, an Internet connection, and either a headset with a mic or a landline phone. Corded phones are necessary because of the quality and continuity of the connection.

Karin Kind works for the Telecommute Resource. Search for full time and part time telecommute jobs at the Telecommute Resource.

What to Blog About?

March 18, 2012 · Posted in Business · Comments Off

Most bloggers talk about what they know. There are high tech bloggers and there are sales bloggers. There are doctors who blog and there are hypnotherapists who blog. There is a niche market for almost every concept and within these blog pages I will teach you how to narrow down a topic to where you will be on the top of your niche on Google.

For now it’s time to start thinking about what you want to blog about. Make a list of 25 to 50 topics that interest you. You don’t have to be an expert in each topic as long as you know where to find information when you need it. In fact, when you have created 1 or 2 blogs and blogging becomes very easy for you then you could even hire someone to write blog posts for you. For now, let’s stick to what you know.

Divide your list into related groups and then sort the lists from the most interest to the least interest then think up keywords for these groups. Keywords are words or phrases used in google to find related text. It’s what you type into the search engine to get your links. For example, if you’re looking for sites to tell you how to make money blogging you would type in make money blogging into google.

Next to each keyword phrase type in the number of search results. This will narrow down your competition. The less results for a keyword phrase the higher the chance you will hit the top of google.

After you find the keyword phrases use the google keyword tool to find out how many people search for your keywords. We’re looking for a high amount of search and a low amount of search results. Once you find a high amount of searches. Also make sure there are a lot of supporting keywords in the bottom half of the page. These are very important to note as most will become your supporting keywords for your blog posts.

In your notebook make note of which ones have the following criteria:

Least search results
Highest searches
Most related keywords

The one with the best outcome from above will be your domain name.
